Lorraine will be in Queensland as a fellow of the May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust for 5 weeks from mid May. During the afternoon of Sunday June 12 she will be talk about her recent writing experiences at an afternoon tea at the Mitchelton library.
Lorraine was once a headmaster of a little rural school, a dairy farmer, has raised six children, taught adult literacy as well as ESL, loves to garden, sew, craft, walk her little dog, read and LOVES to write poetry as well as prose.
Lorraine Marwood has published four poetry collections with Walker books and two verse novels. She has two Aussie Nibbles with Penguin Books and has several educational books published. She loves both writing and designing strategies to teach and encourage others to write poetry. Her latest book is Celebrating Australia, a year in poetry. Her verse novel Star Jumps won the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for children’s literature in 2010.

2016 Online Workshop with Meredith Costain
Date: Wednesday 11 May 2016
Time: Logon 9:15am for 9.30 start until 10:30am
Year Level: 2, 4, 6 (Because of NAPLAN)
In this interactive session, Meredith will work with primary students on a variety of approaches to writing poetry. There will be a chance for students to brainstorm ideas and themes, use their five senses to create word banks to provide extra dollops of colour, flavour, texture and taste to their writing and most importantly, find out for themselves that poetry can be fun!
About Meredith Costain
Meredith Costain is a versatile writer whose work ranges from picture books through to fiction and non-fiction for older readers. Her book, Musical Harriet, was adapted for television by the ABC, and Doodledum Dancing, illustrated by Pamela Allen, was an Honour Book in the Early Childhood section of the 2007 CBCA awards. Meredith is also the literary editor of three national magazines for children: Challenge, Explore and Comet.
Meredith lives in inner-city Melbourne with a menagerie of pets, many of which feature in her stories. She regularly presents writing workshops for children and adults in libraries and schools.
